MetaGame

"The OverSoul, in her divine wisdom, fulfilled her promise with The Game—a system of rules and an economic framework wherein everyone, nearly regardless of their talents, could find security, prosperity, and above all, a purpose. Indeed, through The Game, one could conquer death itself."

"MetaGame, also known as a “Divine Quest” or a “House Crusade,” is a high-stakes real game typically played by nobility. Each month, one major House is elected to play the MetaGame… …MetaGames are comprised of a series of quests. These quests can be of any kind, the only stipulation being that it must be real"

"He wondered if this was what it was like without The Game. Nothingness. A life without goals or overriding purpose. A life like generations past, who fabricated the meaning and value of their own existence in an indifferent universe. The indifference of the rocks, plants, and water around him had been unsettling; but now, with his eyes closed, he felt even more alone. I’ve always been alone. Soul, I don’t want to die alone."
